Captain Rolf – Technical Background & Marine Survey Experience
With a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Technology, I’ve spent my entire career in the boatbuilding and composites industry.
I co-founded Friendship Yachts, where we developed and built the Friendship 28 and Friendship 34.
From there, I worked on a wide range of composite-based projects, focusing on hull design, material layups (epoxy, polyester, carbon), structural integrity, and finish quality.
My work has always been hands-on—supervising builds, setting up production teams, and consulting on technical specs with naval architects and production managers.
Based in Friesland, I’ve been involved in the setup and supervision of yacht builds in the Netherlands and abroad. I’ve worked closely on design-to-production transitions, structural quality checks, and final fit-out phases.
Notable projects and collaborations include:
Polyfalk – composite construction and fit-out
Hoora – production and optimization
Novee – small boat composite builds
Venegy Yachts – prototype ,early production and support
ONY – startup assistance and build supervision
Rapsody Yachts – classic line detailing and build
Dutch-E – electric yacht integration
Koopmans Yachts – aluminum and composite builds
Sapphire Yachts – carbon performance yachts
Wind turbine blade fabrication – advanced composite applications
Carbon fiber light weigt dinghy model Nautix 330 in vacum infusion
In my mid 30s, I opened a small boatyard and *company Molding solutions and continued my involvement in all phases of yacht construction—while also working as a marine surveyor.
I've surveyed a wide range of vessels (GRP, composite, and aluminum) for both private clients and insurance companies, focusing on:
Structural inspections and repairs
Osmosis checks
Hull thickness tests
Rigging and deck hardware assessments /inspections and adjustments
Pre-purchase and post-incident surveys.
My technical background and decades of hands-on build experience give me a solid foundation to evaluate both new builds and aging vessels with a trained and practical eye.
Now im slowing down but still busy with boats .8 years ago i sold my business and move to my catamaran NOVA /currently in the Caribbean.
Im helping many sailors around giving my knowledge and giving helping hand if needetneeded
